Back to the questions · Question 7 of 7
I built my own website on Squarespace or Wix. Is that a problem?
No. But the builder won't tell you what's missing.
Usually one of these:
- Your town and what you do may be missing near the top
- Page titles, search descriptions and business details often never get filled in
- Words inside banner pictures can't be read by Google or ChatGPT

What's going on
Squarespace, Wix, GoDaddy and Google Sites are good tools, and plenty of businesses do well with them. They make a website look finished quickly. What they don't do is check your work. They won't tell you that your town is missing, that your main headline is part of a photo, or that your phone number doesn't dial when someone taps it.
One made-up website, three readers
Picture: the same made-up homepage three ways. A person sees everything. Google doesn't count the words printed on the photo, and finds the town only at the bottom. ChatGPT sees only the name and the menu.
What builders often leave out
- Your town and what you do, in plain words near the top. Google and ChatGPT use them to match you to "near me" questions.
- The behind-the-scenes settings. Most builders have a place for each page's title, its search description and your business details. Many owners never fill them in.
- Words inside pictures. A banner with your headline printed on it looks great, but Google and ChatGPT can't read the words.
Open your website on your phone and tap your phone number. Then search Google for your business name and check that the address, phone number and hours match your website.
